Union Baptist Church is a very active body of believers expressing the love and power of Christ through various ministry teams that are the heartbeat of our church.  Some of these teams are focused on teaching and growing believers and providing opportunities for fellowship within the church, while others are focused on reaching out to the community, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and expressing His love through practical acts of service.  The various ministry teams of Union Baptist Church are highlighted below:

Everyone attending Union Baptist Church or thinking about attending is invited to join one of our Fellowship Groups.  From September through May, Fellowship Groups meet twice-a-month, enjoying dinner and fellowship together, studying and discussing God’s Word, and learning to love one another as God loves us (1 John 4:7-12). Please consider joining us as we grow together as
disciples of Jesus Christ!

We believe wholeheartedly that God listens to our prayers, and that He still works miracles today and brings physical and spiritual healing as we seek Him and call out for His power, protection and presence.
At Union Baptist Church, we pray for pressing needs during our weekly church service and throughout the week.  As daily prayer needs arise they are communicated to church members immediately through the use of cell phone texting.  Members of the text group pray diligently for all needs as they arise.
We also have a men’s prayer group that meets every Monday evening at 6:00 pm.  We continually see God accomplishing amazing things as we learn to be still and seek God’s strength and power in prayer.

Our call as believers in Jesus Christ is to live lives of constant worship.  Worship is more than just singing songs, it’s a lifestyle of dependence on God, giving Him glory in all we do.  Music is one of the most fulfilling ways we can glorify our Creator and experience intimate fellowship with Him.
The Worship Team at Union Baptist Church is a group of imperfect people who love to praise the Lord with singing and instruments and who have been given the incredible privilege of leading God’s people in praise and worship through music.
The Worship Team leads worship during the Sunday morning service, at other special services throughout the year, and even at community events like Union’s annual Grassroots Festival.  We lead worship with a blended style of modern worship and traditional hymns and our current instruments include acoustic guitar, piano, bass guitar and drums.

At Union Baptist Church, we like to eat and fellowship with each other! The Hospitality Team is an extremely gifted group of ladies who coordinate the set-up, food services and clean-up for various events in our building.  They’ve also been involved in hosting community holiday dinners for those in need and coordinating delivery of meals for church members undergoing major health problems, grieving the loss of a loved one and other challenges.

The Lord has blessed us with a beautiful facility and the Facilities Team coordinates the cleaning and maintenance of our buildings and oversees any new
improvement projects.
Periodically we have a church work day, usually on a Saturday, where church members and others spend a day tackling various maintenance needs on our building. Tasks can range from painting to window washing to pigeon-control to even more advanced construction-related projects for those with the appropriate skills and knowledge.

Youth are also encouraged to participate in several service projects each year.  Past projects have included wood cutting, yard clean-up, a community Valentine’s lunch, and work days at Camp Elkanah.
All 7th through 12th graders are invited to join us at YOU for fun, fellowship and Christian growth!

AWANA is one of the key ministries of Union Baptist Church.  Mark and Judy Wing have been spearheading AWANA for many years, and they do a great job keeping it going, loving the kids and continuing to recruit and retain the large number of leaders needed to carry it out.
AWANA meets at Union Baptist on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 during the months of September through March.
AWANA provides kids ages 3 through 12 the opportunity to have lots of fun and fellowship while studying and memorizing Scripture, singing songs of praise to God, and of course playing some loud, outrageous and wildly competitive games.
Other fun AWANA events during the year include the always popular Fairmont Fair, a Christmas program, a quizzing and games day, and the AWANA Grand Prix races that always close out the year.
AWANA is an extremely powerful outreach to the community of Union and attendance runs between 80 to 100 kids each week! What an opportunity we have to share the life-changing word of God with so many young people who might never otherwise enter the door of a church!
Please pray for AWANA and it’s continued impact in our community! Pray that God will continue to raise up godly leaders who deeply love kids and have a passion for sharing the hope we have in Christ with the next generation.

Every summer a team of energetic
volunteers holds an outstanding Vacation Bible School program at Union Baptist Church.  This year’s VBS is coming soon!  All youth from Kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to join us from June 10th to the 13th, 2019 – 9:00 am to noon each day.
Click on the logo above to preregister!
Our VBS includes music and live drama, Bible lessons, games, crafts and snacks.  We’re so thankful for the opportunity God has given us to speak His Word into the lives of so many young people in our community.

At Union Baptist Church we are dedicated to raising up the next generation of believers in Christ and providing our young people with a solid foundation in the Word of God.  Sunday School classes are meant to help accomplish this goal and are held at the church on Sunday mornings from 9:45 to 10:45 am.
Our Sunday School curriculum has been carefully selected to immerse our youth
ages 2 through 18 in the whole counsel
of Scripture, and disciple them to know
and love God and be prepared to
defend their faith in Him.
Ages 2 through 4 are introduced to Scripture through simple story-telling style accounts
of Biblical events and characters, and
they are taught to trust God’s Word and
find guidance and truth in it.
The Kindergarten through 5th grade curriculum focuses on discipleship and
Bible study and over one half of the Bible
is covered during these years.  Young
people are taught to use the Bible and
look up verses on their own, using
Scripture as their source of truth.
From 6th through 12th grade, students change gears and begin gaining a big picture history from a Biblical perspective and developing a deeper understanding of God’s Word through in-depth Bible study.  Special attention is also given to apologetics, learning to defend their faith and internalize the immense amount of evidence we have that supports Biblical creation and the historical facts of the Bible.
Classes for parents are held at the same time, so bring the whole family!

During our Sunday morning worship service, all children participate in the service during announcements, prayer, Scripture reading and praise and worship.  However, during the sermon, children ages 4 through 4th grade are invited to attend Children’s Church, where they receive a Scripture lesson and participate in crafts and activities.
Children’s Church takes place on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and any 5th Sundays from September through May.  On the first
Sunday of each month, we celebrate Communion, and all children stay for the entire service, including the sermon.
Also, there is no Children’s Church during
the summer. During summer and on Communion Sundays, activity packs with Biblical activities are provided to help keep young children occupied during the service.
At Union Baptist Church, we love kids and understand that they cannot always be kept completely quiet during a Sunday morning service.  Occasional kid noises are the sound of a healthy and growing church!

In cooperation with Community Connection of Northeast Oregon, Union Baptist Church holds a monthly food distribution for needy families in Union.  The distribution is held the 3rd Friday of each month at 1531 S. Main Street from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.
We also have a separate church food bank which is operated throughout the month and is available to others in need.  Please let Pastor Joe know if you’re needing some assistance in this area.

Do you or your children or someone you know have clothing needs? We have a good stock of donated clothes that we would be happy to share with you.
“Consider the lilies, how they grow:  they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.  But if God so clothes the
grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you?
You men of little faith!”

From time to time most of us face financial difficulties.  The Union Baptist Church Benevolence Fund is set aside for assisting
in these difficult times.
If you have a pressing need or know of someone who could use assistance, please contact Pastor Joe and he will discuss the situation with you and work with the other elders and deacons to see if the church may be able to offer help through the Benevolence Fund.
Please respect the fund and realize that not all requests will be able to be fulfilled.
Pastor Joe recognizes a great responsibility to be a good steward of this fund which comes from money donated by individual church members, and he is limited by the budget amount set by the church membership each year.  He also must be careful not to enable a continual lifestyle
of financial irresponsibility.
Large requests for financial assistance will require the completion of an application form detailing the financial need, the financial resources available, and the situation that has led to financial challenges. Biblical financial and other counseling may
also be involved.

Union Baptist Church is serious about missions and evangelism. Sharing the hope we have in Christ with others is central to our mission in this community and around the world. A large portion of our annual budget
is used to support a wide variety of international missionaries operating all over the world, and finding ways to effectively share the gospel with people in our community is our passion.
We are currently working to create more opportunities for members of our church to participate in short-term missions. During spring break 2016, we had several church members participate in a Youth for Christ mission trip to Mexico, where they helped build several homes and lead Vacation Bible School. More opportunities are in the works!

Union Baptist Church hosts the community Baccalaureate Service for Union High School graduates each year.  Baccalaureate is a time to honor graduates and send them out with a Biblical message and encouragement about their future steps.
The service includes music, a special speaker, an opportunity for graduates to introduce themselves and share their future plans, and some great gifts for the graduates. After the service there is also a reception with cake and treats and time of fellowship. All graduates are welcome!
Team leader: Linda Bond
Every April, Union Baptist Church hosts a community tea party for ladies.  This event is planned and coordinated by Linda Bond and a team of other talented women.  All ladies and girls are invited and a team of men do the serving during the event.
In addition to the outstanding tea and the fabulous goodies, the event includes a special inspirational speaker, a hat contest, live drama and lots of good fellowship. And most amazing all, it’s free!
