Union Baptist Church is a local body of believers in Jesus Christ, founded on the infallible, inspired Word of God.  We base our church and our daily lives on the truths found in the Bible and on our conviction that “all Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).  Our salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone and is by grace, through faith in His death, burial and resurrection from the dead (Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4).  Our ability to live lives that glorify the Father comes through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16-26). Our complete Statement of Faith can be found on our Beliefs page.

You’re invited to join us any Sunday morning for Sunday School and our regular morning worship service.  We also have many Bible studies, events and activities throughout the week which are detailed on this website.

Sunday meeting times are as follows:

Sunday School:  9:45 am
Worship Service:  11:00 am
Bible Study:  6:30 pm

We’re glad you’ve visited our website.  We welcome you to join us anytime!

OUR PURPOSE, VISION, MISSION AND CHARACTER
PURPOSE
Our purpose is to glorify God
by working joyfully together to fulfill the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission
(Matthew 28:19-20).
 vision
Our vision is to see Union Baptist Church as a healthy, vibrant, Spirit-filled church. We are united in our desire to fulfill the Great Commission in our community and around the world, while at the same time building strong relationships among the individual members of our body, in and through the various ministries of the church.
 MISSION
Our mission commits us to living lives that please and honor God.  We are committed to knowing and loving the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, His Holy Spirit,
His Word and each other.  Our mission is to be an equipping and a sending church, to include short and long-term missions,
as well as church planting, orphanages and other ministry opportunities that may arise.
 CHARACTER
Our character as a congregation of believers is to be a reflection of Jesus Christ in this world
as we become God-honoring, Christ-centered, Bible-based, worship-filled and
service- minded.
 MINISTRY TEAMS
Union Baptist Church is a very active body of believers expressing the love and power of Christ through various ministry teams that are the heartbeat of our church.  Some of these teams are focused on teaching and growing believers and providing opportunities for fellowship within the church, while others are focused on reaching out to the community, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and expressing His love through practical acts of service.  The various ministry teams of Union Baptist Church are highlighted below:

BIBLE STUDY
Team leaders:  Steve and Kathy Merrick

Union Baptist Church offers many opportunities for spiritual growth through a wide variety of Bible studies held at various times during each week.  New for Fall 2017: Fellowship Groups! Everyone attending Union Baptist Church or thinking about attending is invited to join.  Beginning in September, Fellowship Groups will be meeting twice-a-month and enjoying dinner and fellowship together, studying and discussing God’s Word, and learning to love one another as God loves us (1 John 4:7-12).  Sign-up sheets are available every Sunday at church.  Please consider joining us on this new adventure of growing deeper relationships and applying God’s Word to real life!

Additionally, we currently have a Sunday evening Bible study that meets at the church at 6:30 pm and is open to both men and women, and on Sunday mornings we have three adult Bible Study classes meeting from 10:00  to 10:45 am.  Classes for children ages 2 to 18 are provided at the same time on Sunday mornings.

EVERYTHING ABOUT
THE FAMILY
Team leader:  Ed Frazer

Union Baptist Church believes healthy families and marriages are extremely important to God, and we’re always looking for ways to encourage families and provide opportunities for good, clean family fun.

Throughout the year we host several game nights at the church and in the summer we have an annual family picnic.  We also have potlucks after church on the 3rd Sunday of each month.  We’re always looking for
new ideas in this area, so if you have
some, let us know!

WORSHIP TEAM
Team leader:  Pastor Joe Davis

Our call as believers in Jesus Christ is to live lives of constant worship.  Worship is more than just singing songs, it’s a lifestyle of dependence on God, giving Him glory in all we do.  Music is one of the most fulfilling ways we can glorify our Creator and experience intimate fellowship with Him.

The Worship Team at Union Baptist Church is a group of imperfect people who love to praise the Lord with singing and instruments and who have been given the incredible privilege of leading God’s people in praise and worship through music.

The Worship Team leads worship during the Sunday morning service, at other special services throughout the year, and even at community events like Union’s annual Grassroots Festival.  We lead worship with a blended style of modern worship and traditional hymns and our current instruments include acoustic guitar, keyboard, bass guitar, fiddle and drums.

PRAYER TEAM
Team leader:  Steve Merrick

We believe wholeheartedly that God listens to our prayers, and that He still works miracles today and brings physical and spiritual healing as we seek Him and call out for His power, protection and presence.

At Union Baptist Church, we pray for pressing needs during our weekly church service and throughout the week.  As daily prayer needs arise they are communicated to church members immediately through the use of cell phone texting.  Members of the text group pray diligently for all needs as they arise.

We also have a men’s prayer group that meets every Monday evening at 8:00 pm.  We continually see God accomplishing amazing things as we learn to be still and seek God’s strength and power in prayer.

Team leader:  Ron Bruce

The Lord has blessed us with a beautiful facility and the Facilities Team coordinates the cleaning and maintenance of our buildings and oversees any new improvement projects.

Periodically we have a church work day, usually on a Saturday, where church members and others spend a day tackling various maintenance needs on our building. Tasks can range from painting to window washing to pigeon-control to even more advanced construction-related projects for those with the appropriate skills and knowledge.

FELLOWSHIP TEAM
Team leader:  Dori Frazer

At Union Baptist Church, we like to eat and fellowship with each other! The Fellowship Team is an extremely talented group of ladies who coordinate the set-up, food services and clean-up for various events in our building.  They’ve also been involved in hosting community holiday dinners for those in need and coordinating delivery of meals for church members undergoing major health problems, grieving the loss of a loved one and other challenges.

The Fellowship Team is greatly appreciated here at Union Baptist Church and the team leader, Dori Frazer, is one of the best cooks you’ll ever meet!
YOUTH MINISTRY TEAMS
BYOU Final
YOUTH GROUP
Team leaders:  Joe & Karen Wing

YOU stands for Youth of Union, our middle school and high school youth group.  YOU has its own special meeting area in the former garage, a space that was designed and remodeled just for them.  Our regular meeting time is Sunday afternoons from
4:00 to 6:00.

YOU has it’s own live band and weekly activities include worship, Bible study, games, small group discussion and of course eating! In addition to the weekly meeting, YOU sponsors many other activities throughout the year, including Christian rock concerts, hockey games, mini-golf, bowling, camping trips, scavenger hunts, movie nights…well, you get the idea! Youth are also encouraged to participate in several service projects each year.  Past projects have included wood cutting, yard clean-up, a community Valentine’s lunch, and work days at Camp Elkanah.

All 7th through 12th graders are invited to join us at YOU for fun, fellowship and Christian growth!

Click on the YOU logo above to check us out on Facebook and see pictures and updates about current events and activities.

YOUTH BAND
Team leader:  Pastor Joe Davis

The You Worship Band is made up primarily of middle school and high school youth, and they lead the worship for YOU.  We currently have three vocalists, and our instruments include acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard and drums.

The You Worship Band also leads worship at other events from time to time, and they occasionally participate in our Sunday morning worship service at Union Baptist. Their most recent adventure was leading worship for an AWANA camp with over 100 3rd through 6th graders, and they did a great job!

Many of the You Worship Band members joined the band with no musical experience, but through practice and more practice they’ve developed their skills and grown in confidence.

Contact Pastor Joe if you know a 7th to 12th grader with musical potential that may be interested in joining our band.

AWANA
Team leaders:  Mark & Judy Wing

AWANA is one of the key ministries of Union Baptist Church.  Mark and Judy Wing have been spearheading AWANA for many years, and they do a great job keeping it going, loving the kids and continuing to recruit and retain the large number of leaders needed to carry it out.

AWANA meets at Union Baptist on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 during the months of September through March. AWANA provides kids ages 3 through 12 the opportunity to have lots of fun and fellowship while studying and memorizing Scripture, singing songs of praise to God, and of course playing some loud, outrageous and wildly competitive games.

Other fun AWANA events during the year include the always popular Fairmont Fair, a Christmas program, a quizzing and games day, and the AWANA Grand Prix races that always close out the year.

AWANA is an extremely powerful outreach to the community of Union and attendance runs between 80 to 100 kids each week! What an opportunity we have to share the life-changing word of God with so many young people who might never otherwise enter the door of a church!

Please pray for AWANA and it’s continued impact in our community! Pray that God will continue to raise up godly leaders who deeply love kids and have a passion for sharing the hope we have in Christ with the next generation.

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Team leader:  Pastor Joe Davis

At Union Baptist Church we are dedicated to raising up the next generation of believers in Christ and providing our young people with a solid foundation in the Word of God.  Sunday School classes are meant to help accomplish this goal and are held at the church on Sunday mornings from 9:45 to 10:45 am.

Our Sunday School curriculum has been carefully selected to immerse our youth ages 2 through 18 in the whole counsel of Scripture, and disciple them to know and love God and be prepared to defend their faith in Him.

Ages 2 through 4 are introduced to Scripture through simple story-telling style accounts of Biblical events and characters, and they are taught to trust God’s Word and find guidance and truth in it.

The Kindergarten through 5th grade curriculum focuses on discipleship and Bible study and over one half of the Bible is covered during these years.  Young people are taught to use the Bible and look up verses on their own, using Scripture as their source of truth.

From 6th through 12th grade, students change gears and begin gaining a big picture history from a Biblical perspective and developing a deeper understanding of God’s Word through in-depth Bible study.  Special attention is also given to apologetics, learning to defend their faith and internalize the immense amount of evidence we have that supports Biblical creation and the historical facts of the Bible.

Classes for parents are held at the same time, so bring the whole family!

CHILDREN’S CHURCH
Team leader:  Mindy Davis

During our Sunday morning worship service, all children participate in the service during announcements, prayer, Scripture reading and praise and worship.  However, during the sermon, children ages 4 through 4th grade are invited to attend Children’s Church, where they receive a Scripture lesson and participate in crafts and activities.

Children’s Church takes place on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and any 5th Sundays from September through May.  On the first Sunday of each month, we celebrate Communion, and all children stay for the entire service, including the sermon.  Also, there is no Children’s Church during the summer. During summer and on Communion Sundays, activity packs with Biblical activities are provided to help keep young children occupied during the service.

At Union Baptist Church, we love kids and understand that they cannot always be kept completely quiet during a Sunday morning service.  Occasional kid noises are the sound of a healthy and growing church!
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Team leader:  Mindy Davis

Every summer a team of energetic volunteers holds an outstanding Vacation Bible School program at Union Baptist Church.

Our VBS includes music and live drama, Bible lessons, games, crafts and snacks. In 2017 we set a new record with 114 kids!  We’re so thankful for the opportunity God has given us to speak His Word into the lives of so many young people in our community.

Thank you to all our volunteers for carrying out Operation Arctic! May God cause the seeds we’ve sown to bear fruit in the lives of all those who attended!

CLOTHING MINISTRY
Team leader:  Dori Frazer

Do you or your children or someone you know have clothing needs? We have a good stock of donated clothes that we would be happy to share with you.

“Consider the lilies, how they grow:  they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith!”

BARNABAS TEAM
Team leader:  Pat Bruce

Barnabas is a special group of hardworking individuals whose passion is to meet practical needs around our town.  Past projects have included roof repairs, yard work, fence repairs, painting, and wood cutting. The goal of the Barnabas team is to show the love of Christ in our community through practical acts of service for those in need.

Do you have a pressing project that you’re not able to complete or do you know someone whose elderly or disabled or financially challenged and could use some help at their house? Give Pastor Joe a call or complete a Barnabas form at church. The team will review your request and let you know if it’s something they can help with and what the time frame may be.

MISSIONS AND EVANGELISM
Team Leader:  Steve Merrick

Union Baptist Church is serious about missions and evangelism. Sharing the hope we have in Christ with others is central to our mission in this community and around the world. A large portion of our annual budget is used to support a wide variety of international missionaries operating all over the world, and finding ways to effectively share the gospel with people in our community is our passion.

We are currently working to create more opportunities for members of our church to participate in short-term missions. During spring break 2016, we had several church members participate in a Youth for Christ mission trip to Mexico, where they helped build several homes and lead Vacation Bible School. More opportunities are in the works!
 Graduation Cap and Diploma
BACCALAUREATE
Team leader:  Lori Baird

BENEVOLENCE FUND
Team leader: Pastor Joe

From time to time each of us faces financial difficulties.  The Union Baptist Church Benevolence Fund is set aside for assisting in these difficult times.

If you have a pressing need or know of someone who could use assistance, please contact Pastor Joe and he will discuss the situation with you and work with the other elders and deacons to see if the church may be able to offer help through the Benevolence Fund.

Please respect the fund and realize that not all requests will be able to be fulfilled.  Pastor Joe recognizes a great responsibility to be a good steward of this fund which comes from money donated by individual church members, and he is limited by the budget amount set by the church membership each year.  He also must be careful not to enable a continual lifestyle of financial irresponsibility.

Large requests for financial assistance will require the completion of an application form detailing the financial need, the financial resources available, and the situation that has led to financial challenges. Biblical financial and other counseling may also be involved.

THE PATH TO SALVATION, FORGIVENESS AND NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

THE GOSPEL
According to the Scriptures

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

Acts 4:12
[Speaking of Jesus] “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Acts 16:31
They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Romans 10:9-11,13
That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved…for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.”

A Prayer to Accept God’s Free Gift of Salvation

God, I admit that I have sinned against You…
And that I have not lived my life for Your glory…
I turn from that sin right now…
I don’t want to live my life that way anymore…
Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross for my sins…
And that you rose from the dead on the third day…
Right now, I put my faith in You alone for my salvation…
Jesus, You are my Lord and my Savior…My life is Yours…
Thank you for forgiving my sins and making me a new creation…
Thank you for coming to live inside me…
Show me how to live the rest of my life in Your love and for Your glory…
Amen.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

1 John 5:11-13
And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.  These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
UNION BAPTIST CHURCH STATEMENT OF FAITH*
Scriptures

We believe the Bible is God’s absolute, objective truth for all people for all times.1 It is without error in concept or detail in the original writings.2 It is breathed out in its entirety by God, divinely preserved, and, therefore, completely trustworthy.3 We believe the Holy Spirit superintended human authors so that, through their individual personalities and literary styles, they composed and recorded God’s Word.4 It is God’s written revelation complete in the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments.5 It is the supreme authority in all matters to which it speaks and is sufficient for life, conduct, and practice – understandable by every believer.6 We believe Scripture must be understood through the literal, contextual, grammatical, and historical method of interpretation, and applied under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.7

The Triune God

We believe in the one personal, transcendent, immanent, living God – the creator, sustainer, and sovereign ruler of all things.8 He is self-existent, immutable, and works all things according to the counsel of His will in order to bring glory to Himself.9 God’s foreknowledge is exhaustive and not dependent on human decisions and actions.10 He eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.11 They execute distinct but harmonious roles in creation, providence, redemption, and consummation.12 They are equal in nature, attributes, and perfections.13 The holy triune God is worthy of our worship, confidence, and obedience.14

The Father

We believe in God the Father: one in essence with the Son and the Spirit.15 He is an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in all His attributes.16 We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of humanity, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.17 His fatherhood involves both His designation within the Trinity and His relationship with the redeemed.18 Everything He does is in accordance with His perfect will, though His sovereignty does not eliminate or minimize human responsibility.19

The Son

We believe in God the Son: one in essence with the Father and the Spirit.20 He is the one and only eternal Son of God, the preeminent revelation of God.21 At the right time He emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-slave.22 He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary as Jesus, the Christ – fully God and fully man.23 We believe in His sinless life, His voluntary submission to His Father’s will that culminated in His substitutionary death on the cross, His burial, and His bodily resurrection.24 He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father.25 His death on the cross atoned for our sin and satisfied the righteous demands of the holy God.26 He is the Mediator between God and man.27 He is Prophet, Priest, and King; the Head and Savior of His Church; the Heir of all things; the Judge of all the world; and the exact representation of God the Father.28 We believe in the personal return of Christ for His Church and in the establishment of His Kingdom on earth.29

The Holy Spirit

We believe in God the Holy Spirit: one in essence with the Father and Son.30 He was sent by God the Father and God the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.31 The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus Christ and implements Christ’s work of redemption and baptism.32 He regenerates, baptizes, seals, gifts, and indwells all believers at conversion, and progressively sanctifies them throughout their earthly lives.33 The Spirit fills, leads, comforts, and intercedes for believers, empowering them for godly living and service.34 His presence is evident by the fruit of the Spirit and the building up of believers into the body of Christ, the Church.35

Mankind

We believe God originally created persons, male and female, in the image of God and free from sin.36 We believe all people are sinners by nature and choice and are spiritually dead.37  We also believe that those who repent of sin and trust Jesus Christ as Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit.38  We believe God established marriage to be a lifelong covenant relationship between one man and one woman.39  Marriage so defined is the only permissible context for intimate sexual expression and is the foundation for human family.40  We further believe that life is precious and should be protected from beginning, at fertilization, until death.41

Sin

We believe that sin is any action, inaction, or attitude that is contrary to the nature or Word of God, which constitutes a rejection of His authority, resulting in alienation from God.42 Sin entered the world when Adam, representing humanity, disobeyed God.43 As a result of the one sin of Adam, his descendants – the whole human race – are separated from relationship with God, spiritually dead, and therefore in a fallen state. Being sinners by nature and choice and utterly unable to remedy their lost condition, humanity is in need of salvation.44

Salvation

We believe that salvation is a gift of God, received by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone.45 We further believe that this salvation is based upon the sovereign grace of God, was purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross, and is received by faith apart from any human merit, works, or ritual.46 Regeneration is effected through the work of the Holy Spirit in God’s elect.47 All who repent and believe in Jesus Christ are forgiven of all their sins, justified in God’s sight by the merit of Christ’s righteousness, adopted into His family, sealed by the Holy Spirit, and have equal access to God.48 As a result, the progressive sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit leads to a newness of life that is evidenced by righteous living, good works, and biblical social concern, or God’s corrective discipline.49 The consummation of salvation is that those who have accepted God’s gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ shall be resurrected and glorified.50 They shall receive their inheritance in the Kingdom of their Father, whom they shall see and enjoy throughout the ages.51

Church

We believe that the New Testament Church is composed of all persons who have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit since the day of Pentecost following Christ’s resurrection.52 We believe that the Church is the spiritual body of Christ, of which He is the Head.53 We believe that this body expresses itself in local assemblies in which believers are in a covenant relationship.54 Biblically, that relationship is expressed corporately through hearing the Word of God proclaimed, engaging in worship, practicing the two ordinances of believer’s baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper, building up each other’s faith, holding each other accountable through biblical love and discipline, and engaging in local and world evangelization.55 Biblically designated officers must meet the biblical qualifications for their office and submit to the headship of Christ, emulating His servant leadership.56 We believe the function of eldering is reserved for biblically qualified males.57 Each local church is to choose, support, and submit to those who function as elders.58

Angels

We believe God created angels as spirit-beings possessing power and intellect, to worship and serve Him and to minister to believers.59 Satan is a fallen angel who masquerades as an angel of light.60 The scope of Satan’s power is subject to God’s will.61 By subjecting Adam and Eve to temptation and sin, Satan has extended his rebellion against God, which he continues by deceit, seduction, and destruction.62 While Satan and his demons are powerful, they are subject to Christ’s authority and judgment.63 Satan and his demons have been defeated for eternity by Jesus Christ through His death on the cross and victorious resurrection, sealing their everlasting damnation.64 At the time of final judgment, they will be consigned to eternal separation from God in the Lake of Fire.65

Last Things

We believe in the sudden, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ and in His Millennial Kingdom.66 He will return with His saints from heaven with power and great glory, on a day known only to God.67 We believe that those who have accepted God’s gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, at the point of physical death, enter into God’s eternal glory.68 They shall be resurrected and transformed to His body of glory, and they shall receive their inheritance of glory in the Kingdom of their Father.69 They shall be made fully blessed in the presence and service of God, whom they shall see and enjoy throughout the ages.70 We believe that all unsaved persons, at the point of physical death, are destined for eternal damnation.71 They will be resurrected, separated from the righteous, judged, and cast into an existence of eternal punishment where they will be tormented day and night forever and ever when death and Hades is cast into the Lake of Fire.72 We believe it is imperative for the Church to work and wait in sober watchfulness, that it may be found ready at His coming.73
